Throughout the year in the AP Art class, I can honestly say I've grown greatly as an art student, not only by the quality of my pieces, but also the overall creativity and usage of the materials/media that I have been given. For example in drawing overall, you can see by the beginning of my pieces I used color pencil and graphite, which didn't turn out so well as planned, where as now I have gained a lot of confidence in drawing in general which shows. I feel I am able to put in the correct amount of contrast in all of my pieces where as I used to be afraid to add extra contrast in the fear it would mess up or make the piece look worst than it could have been improved on.
I definitely feel that I am able to take many more risks in my art pieces than I was willing to before the AP Art Class started. I'm really thankful for the amount of support Mrs. Rossi gave me throughout the year, it helped me so much to gain confidence in my art, along with being willing to take more risks/add more to my pieces. I also feel much more confident in my painting skills, especially with oil paints. Before the AP Art Class started, I was too hesitant to start to use oils, where in the class Mrs. Rossi pushed me to try all types of medium I was able to use in the class, one of which included using oils. I can say without a doubt that if it wasn't for Mrs. Rossi pushing me to use oils, I probably would not have painted with oils at all. That is one of many mediums I have fallen in love with.
Another aspect I feel I have grown greatly on is my usage of a camera in my concentration which consisted of photography. At the beginning of the year I was not using my camera much, but now I've learned to take it wherever I might have needed it for concentration pieces. I have definitely learned to improvise in my photos because there's never going to be a "perfect sunset" or "perfect lighting", I'm sure all photographers would wish that. I have learned so much about how to use my camera to improve the contrast, along with the lighting and focusing of the camera. At first I never understood what the 100/1000 type of numbers meant on the settings of my camera, but now I know its used to change how long the photo is taken, which affects how much light is let in, along with the overall effect upon the outcome of the photo. Being more aware of this has helped me greatly in being able to use contrast to my advantage when there might not be prime lighting at the time the photo was taken.
Overall, this AP Art Class has made me feel so much more confident, and satisfied with my art pieces, and has actually inspired me to make art at home, and use it in my daily life so much more often than I was before I started this class. This class has helped me to fall in love with new mediums, and has allowed me to be willing to take more risks to push values and contratst more than I have ever been willing to before, hopefully that will help me improve the future art that is to be made even better. I have absolutely loved taking this class, and even though it was very structured in time with deadlines, which adds pressure on finishing up pieces, I'm so glad I took this class.
