For this project I used the medium of graphite pencil. I chose to do something involving anatomy because I have never done a piece which involved someones stomach or arms, which would be something new also with challenges in regards to lack of experience with drawing the stomach/torso area of someone (that person being myself). I used different thicknesses in the types of pencils to help incorporate more values of lights and darks in the piece. In despite of not having a ton of experience with pencil, I am very very pleased with how this turned out. I used tissue paper over the tips of my fingers to be able to incorporate in more smoother shading than I would have been able to do with other ways to shade.
My favorite part of creating this piece was the realism I was able to convey. I absolutely love using graphite as the medium of choice now. Creating this piece definitely was challenging and lengthy in trying to create the least amount of smudges or unintended marks, but I'm very satisfied with the outcome. Hopefully in future projects I am able to push the contrasts of every aspect of a piece along with the values, but at the same time to still be able to incorporate a more realistic aspect along with the lines and values. As there were little to no lines in this piece (other than the belly button and areas in the pants) shading was very straight forward for the most part.
In future projects hopefully I can strengthen my skills with graphite even further and use other types of medium with black and white, such as pen and ink, or charcoal. I definitely feel so far in comparison to former projects with graphite that my skills have improved greatly, and hopefully more so in future pieces to come.
