For this project we were supposed to do a painting of some sort of landscape. So, I based my landscape painting off of a photo that was taken at a family members house while I was on vacation. I really enjoyed painting this piece as always while painting with oil paints. It was very easy being able to blend all of the colors together. Given that my canvas was small, provided many challenges as to how I was going to go about creating this piece. Another challenge was how steady I could hold my hand when doing the finer details in this piece.
Some of the difficulties in making this piece were being able to give the amount of detail I wanted to convey in the painting as was in the photo. Another challenge was to be able to give the texture of the trees and the grass with a tiny paint brush. I ended up putting all of the minor details in with a fan brush, which made the piece turn out even more interesting than it looked like before the details were added. Another challenge found was being able to do the grass, along with the highlights and darker tones in it without making it look like a completely blurred out part of the painting. One of the major challenges I found in this piece was being able to express the variety of green colors in the painting without it all mixing together as a whole uniform color of green.
Overall, I'm really satisfied with how this piece turned out. At first I was hesitant as to how much detail and variety of color I was able to do, but it worked out when the piece was finished. In the near future I would definitely want to try painting on a smaller canvas to see how much more detail and value that can be pushed even further. Also one idea that came to mind after doing this piece (related to the amount of green I used) was to try to do a piece with similar if not all the same tones of color (like I did with green in this piece) with the only variation being the amount of value I could change to affect the colors.
