So this project was a choice project, so I chose to base this project off of a photo I took of a (replicated) sculpture. One thing I did on purpose was to create the sculpture with a shorter torso, rather than an elongated and unnatural torso. The reason behind this is that the piece I wanted to work on should look realistic as it would be an actual person modeling rather than a "perfect" frame or figure. In this piece I chose to do stippling with pen as the medium. Overall I found this piece to have taken much longer than anticipated, but overall worth it.
One challenge that happened when in the process of this creating this piece was trying to fill in all of the areas of depth with as much value as possible without creating too much value in contrast to other parts of the piece. It was much easier to start off with a "base" layer of dots and adding on to that rather than to do it all at once, that way everything looked more balanced than if it were to all have been done in parts. This was my first project doing just stippling, and I was very surprised to see the outcome turn out this way. During this project I was very hesitant to add more values, but once I was willing to do that it looked a lot more realistic. Another challenge I found was being able to do the texture of the fabric correctly so it would look as realistic as it could be given my medium I chose.
Overall, I am very satisfied with the amount of value and contrast I was able to portray as this piece became closer to being finished. Due to the amount of time it took to finish this piece, I have a lot more patience to work on stippling in projects in the near future. Another concept I'm much more willing to incorporate into future projects are to use more complicated textures and ways of using value such as in fabrics like I did in this piece.
